OSX - Known issues with renderBeamer on Mac

1. Run Shell Script” encountered an error

If you are using our renderBeamer (standalone or with 3d app plugin package) on OSX (from 10.9.5 to current version) you can get to an error with Run Shell Script.
This error exists while installing renderBeamer.pkg and it's caused be OSX system security settings.

To fix this, you need to turn off apps security preferences.

Go to "Apple" menu (top right corner) / open "System Preferences" and proceed to "Security & Privacy" settings tab

OSX Security settings

Next, unlock your setup by clicking on "padlock". Next, you should be able to change setting "Allow apps downloaded from" to "Anywhere" like this:

OSX Apps security

After that, lock settings back and close system preferences.

renderBeamer installers should work now.

For Sierra/High Sierra users please use this guide … atekeeper/

2. RenderBeamer is not starting after successful installation

If you have installed render beamer, and still cannot get it working, probably your java got blocked by unsupported type of fonts.

This issue is more like Oracle-Java problem, not directly renderBeamer app.

To get beamer working you need to remove any additional fonts from your OSX machine. Fonts won't be deleted - they will be stored next to system fonts directory so you will be able to use them later.

To do this, just open "FontBook" application from your default \Applications\ folder and use "Restore standard fonts" option

Once using this option, OSX will inform you about removing "extra" fonts from your system. As you can see, they won't be deleted - but just moved to \Fonts (Removed)\ folder next to the Fonts folder. Normally OSX fonts path is /System/Library/Fonts

Once you're done with this operation, just uninstall current renderBeamer with all plugins (use renderBeamer uninstaller app) or install again renderBeamer.pkg

A restart may be required to get font changes!

3. Blocked (non-privilages) renderBeamer folder in \Applications\

If your \Applications\renderBeamer folder is blocked (with "stop" sign on folder icon) that means you got some problems with privileges in your system

To make renderBeamer privileges working without changing any other system values, just open terminal from \Applications\Utilities\ and paste command

sudo chmod -R 755

Now drag and drop the renderbeamer folder do the terminal, hit enter and add your password.

Please restart renderBeamer app after changing the privileges if it is still running.

If this still won't work, please try to use "repair privileges" from OSX DiskUtility app or contact us for assistance.

4. Render beamer logs for troubleshooting

If you renderBeamer is hanged after installation or startup you need to check renderBeamer logs.

renderBeamer logs folder is "system hidden". To show hidden folders you need to:

- Open Terminal found in Finder > Applications > Utilities.
- In Terminal, paste the following: defaults write AppleShowAllFiles YES.
- Press return.
- Hold the 'Option/alt' key, then right click on the Finder icon in the dock and click Relaunch.

Once "show hidden files" option is on, just go to your user folder, and open .renderBeamer directory in new tab

Next, you can just copy log.txt to a desktop,  and contact us on skype or chat.
